I'M BACK !!

Well, its been a while and I must admit …. I’ve missed it. I want to thank the folks who have called and or done whatever to ask me to continue a blog in one way or another. It seems as though some of you actually enjoy reading what’s on my mind. That said, a lot of the success of Station 9’s blog was a combination of the crew and the calls that we ran. That and the fact that we worked very well with A-shift to keep the site updated regularly. I’m a little disappointed to see that C-shift has dropped the ball out there but also understand that they too are most likely busy settling into a new crew / routine. I’m not sure if I can capture that same “feeling” out here in “never never” land but I’ll try.
Everyone wanted to know if I was going to post on Station #3’s blog and as for now, I’ve decided against it (the latest update there was NOT posted by me…more to come on that later). The recent moves hit every station and every shift so a lot of the writters out here were moved elsewhere as well. That said, nobody associated with the Station #3 Blog has approached me to say “hey, here’s the user name and password” or to ask if I wanted to post to the site for C-shift. I didn’t want to go ask for it or have it seem as though I was coming out here and “taking over” their blog either. I thought about starting a “station 3” blog of my own ( less the cartoon and Hippie / Green BS) but again didn’t want to ruffle feathers (yea yea I know…ME not wanting to ruffle feathers???WTF ). Anyway, I also wanted a site maybe “not so much” attached to the station or our Department so that I can add a little more of my personal opinion. So, all the events of late, combined with my new attitude have had me thinking of the “old” Fire Department…. you know.. the one we all wanted to work for. The one EVERYBODY wanted to work for. Back when it was fun to come to work. When there was a cartoon on the board everyday. When we worked all day and wanted to. When we got the job done and managed to learn a little something along the way. When you respected the men around you and was proud to work for someone. When you knew whos coat tail to grab on to or knew the feel of the Captain’s hand on your shoulder pushing down a hallway. Back when it was more difficult to find the “2 OUT” vs. the “2 IN”. Back when we had men who knew the job from experience…not books. Back when we had “Wooden Ladders and Iron Firemen” as opposed to the opposite. WOW!!! there’s a name for a site… Wooden Ladders and Iron Firemen! So that’s how I came to it. With the aid of my technical division (Rhett), we shortened the name to make it easier for you to access it. Our URL is Ironfiremen.com but I will maintain the name Wooden Ladders and Iron Firemen on the site in honor of those who came before us. That said, please note the 343 banner at the top. As long as this site is up, so will that banner be. I also have a clip of the faces of the 343 but haven’t figured out how to get it on the side board yet … look for it soon. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do as well as some new plans etc for the site. I think you’ll enjoy the new look / direction. As for now, I’ll leave you with a little video clip I found that kind of sums things up a little… ENJOY!

Today is our first day of the cycle ( our shift calendar is at the bottom of the page) so we’ll be back Tuesday and Thursday. Until then, it’s good to be back, stay safe and in the house.
