HUMP DAY!

Both ways…it’s Wednesday and our middle day..almost over the hump! How’s it going so far?? Hummmmmmmmm…. lets see?

Yep..that says “Wines” on the Medic! Opie was over at the ER again playing doctor so we got to bust up and scatter the crew for a while today. In the end, Joe and I ran our Medic and today was heart attack day. Oh no, I’m not talking about our patients..we haven’t ran the first cardiac call all day; I’m talking about all the Firefighters and Medics when they seen me roll out of the ambulance at the ER. LOL! “Everything ok Capt?” “Why you riding that thing Capt?” “Need some help with that Capt?” GIVE ME A BREAK! Scotty and I have been saying it for years.. this medic stuff is not rocket science. It’s band-aids for Pete’s sake…STICKY SIDE DOWN! That’s all you gotta know LOL. No actually it was kinda nice getting out and about today. A few calls, nothing too bad and all in all a good ride. I’ve needed the change actually. It’s evaluation time here and that on top of all the other paper work I’ve had has covered me up! Yea..I just love paperwork.

I’m about to pull my hair out but, the good news is that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I just hope it’s not a train LOL. Not too much more to say about today.. same ol, same ol. Now last day on the other hand was kind busy. I didn’t post much more than the Memorial Day content because I didn’t want to take away from that. But it seemed as though Last day was burnt food day…

That and running into the County day… for “burn food” of course. Here’s a few shots of Brothers from next door in the “high rent” district…

Don’t ya just love those yellow fire trucks?? NOT! LOL. We had a few visitors last day as well. One of which was now Retired K.B. “Mr pronunciation” Walker. K.B. stoped by to wish us a safe and Happy Memorial day as well as deliver a box of doughnuts.

Captain Mike Banks was working his last 17hrs up at ARFF last day. I think he was trading time or maybe working OT but either way, last day at midnight he was officially RETIRED so, he worked up until 23:59. Now that’s dedication! Rumor has it he’s buying a mansion in the Caribbean.

I’ve know “Michael Wayne” most of my life and will miss his “fretting”. He spent a lot of time over in S.E. at station #6 when my dad was there and they were running a ton of fire. I have some pretty good stories to tell on him but will hold of for a future post. So good luck and best wishes Mike! Here he is drafting his letter to the chief apologizing for being such a pain in their …. errrrrrrr I mean thanking them for all they’ve done and explaining how much he’s gonna miss this place…

We even caught a working fire last day with our brothers and sisters from E9, E5, L13, M9, B2 and RS1. There were 3 occupants (mother and 2 children) on the phone trapped above the fire. Turns out there wasn’t that much fire, and the boys from #9 got to her quick. We were 2nd in, laid the line and established command. A job well done by everyone. Check out the local coverage here. I mentioned paperwork, stress, pulling my hair out etc. but I think I’m catching on as to how to relax a little. A little less work and a lot more play! Rube Woolsey was in town this past week putting on a team roping clinic at a good friend’s barn. Rube is a National Champion and I even got the chance to hit the town with him for a few beers etc. Check out his web site and here’s a shot from the other night..

Sorry it’s a cell phone pic but hey…it’s Rube Woolsey! So that was cool. Want more stress relief?? Try camping on your own island down on Baden Lake in Albermarle NC.

HEY.. WATCH IT MISTER!!! That’s my baby sister… dirty ol firemen..LOL. Not enough relief yet?? Try renting a tube and floating down the New River..they even have tubes with nets over the bottom to carry your cooler full of ice cold ..ahhhh…errrr.. cool-aid… yea.. cool-aid..RED.

Sorry..another phone photo but hey..it’s the river 🙂 And for all you farm boys..YES I’ve been working a little too.. Sub-soiling and planting soy beans and millet

OK..I know it’s been a long one again so to wrap things up..ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL! Yep, the Roanoke Rampage play our final game of the season this Saturday night against the Charlotte Cobras. We play in Charlotte against a team who by all appearances will be the toughest we’ve faced all season. Charlotte is only 3 1/2 – 4 hours away so make your plans now to ride out and show your support. Most of the team is heading down on Friday. The Cobra’s are hosting a party for us that night.. maybe a short practice on Sat. morning, some pool or sight seeing time them our 1st night game! It’s gonna be a blast..Hope to see ya there. That’s it for tonight.. I’m off Friday but will try to update from Charlotte. Until then, stay safe and in the house.
