Catching up and a simple "Trick of the Trade"

Well, the good news is that I lived 12 hours following my last post  and made it to 4-day break. As usual, I’ve been just as busy at home on the farm as I am while on the job. We’ve been lucky enough to have been getting some much needed rain. Our hay fields are once again green and have responded well to ...

Buckle up!

I really haven’t checked in with a “full” post since our 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in Greenbelt, Md back on the 11th. I received a TON of e-mails, text messages and comments on the site from that post ( I Cried ) … THANKS! I was hesitant to hit the “publish” button on that post. I had so much I wanted to ...

A bad day for Randy gets worse … we could both be dead!

I arrived at the station at about 06:30am this morning.  As I always do, I went to my gear locker, got my PPE and placed it by the rig. Everything has it’s place and something caught my eye … something out of place. It was a face piece … an SCBA mask and it was laying in the floor out in ...

Everything worked out well and the Buckaroo even got in a little “creek time”. Saturday morning, I met my Lieutenant George, ...

Middle Day at Lucky #13

It’s our middle day here at Lucky #13 and we’re trying to ride it out quietly. It’s “that time of the month”  (check time) so things have been a little crazy. Last day, I didn’t post on “Randy” because he wasn’t here. It was his first day “traveling”. They needed a body down at The Deuce and our rookie’s number ...

Less than 12 hrs til 4 day

We’re winding down a fairly busy cycle. It’s been a good week but I’m ready for our 4-day break! I think Randy is looking forward to it as well. This week’s training centered around “calling the MAYDAY”, “Search and Rescue” and “Vent Enter Search”. Of course, we caught our normal run load and had some cleaning to do in between… ...

Our dispatchers rock!

It happens more often than not here lately but yesterday, all HELL broke loose! Severe thunder storms hit the valley yesterday evening and lightning strikes,  flash flooding  and working fires soon followed. It was chaos!  EVERY truck in the city was on the road. Our first run had us heading from the edge of North West to the out skirts ...
