The fire was mainly contained to the "attic" area. Crews were met with high heat stretching in to the seat. The house had a slate roof on a steep pitch which made ventilating a little interesting.

Unlike when the Derecho hit, we were not caught off guard. We were kept informed, given up to date projections / information and provided the necessary resources.

I would list their names, but they have none. One of the Captains explained to me that when the Honor Guard is working "we don't have a name, we don't have a face .. we don't exist as individuals. It's not about us, it's about that family and seeing that they are taken care of".

It happens more often than not here lately but yesterday, all HELL broke loose! Severe thunder storms hit the valley yesterday evening and lightning strikes,  flash flooding  and working fires soon followed. It was chaos!  EVERY truck in the city was on the road.  Storms … high winds, rain and hail blew through Roanoke this evening andleft a trail of debris behind. Around 2pm this evening we received a call that a roof had blown off a building … yea right. We run this address all the time so I know it’s a complex of brick apartments. I’m thinking we’ll get there to find ...
