Are you committed to the right things?

flamefest2Many of us will not hesitate to say that we are committed to the job but are we really?

Are we committed to the right thing(s)?

How about your wife, husband or significant other? How about your children? Your family? Are you as committed to them as you are the job? Are they not a vital part of “the job” or at least in us doing it?

How many ball games, sleep overs, school plays / events etc have you missed for duty or to just hang with / help out a Brother or Sister firefighter? Has your “home” family received as much of your attention as your “fire” family?

I’ve been saying it for years now…. if we can’t take care of our own families, what would make us think we can take care of someone else’s … a complete strangers … the same people we are sworn to protect and serve? Think about that for a minute.

I’m guilty. I haven’t always put my wife, children or family first. Actually, many times; they were 2nd to the job. I see that now and regret it.

I can’t change the past but I can learn from my mistakes, make the necessary changes and improve the future. I’ve been working on it and will continue to do so.

My wife (Donna) and I will be attending FlameFest , an adventurous and romantic weekend get away focused on fun, relaxation and strengthening your marriage. It’s hosted by Lori Mercer of Firefighterwife, com (link) .

If you … or more importantly; if your wife / significant other doesn’t know about or has never heard of Firefighter Wife or FalmeFest, then PLEASE use the links I provide in this post.

From FirefighterWife.com….. “Firefighting is a noble profession.  And also one that takes an emotional toll sometimes at the expense of marriages and family life.  Our Mission is to honor, strengthen, support and encourage fire service marriages and families”.

The Fire Critic write about Flame Fest 2014 HERE

38f58df43738dea4559e7e05db4760f6The Fire Critic and his beautiful wife will also be attending (I hope she brings that pink dress). This will be their 2nd year and neither would miss the event.

Actually, we are doing a little more than attending … we are actually involved. Rhett and I will be speaking Friday morning on health and wellness (physical and mental).

We are also putting on the Fire Wife Touch-A-Truck event! “This event allows the wives to try on the gear, breathe air through SCBA, drag some hose line, throw some water and….a few more fun surprises we are adding this year!

It was definitely a highlight of Flame Fest 2014.  There is something about the wives watching their firefighters all discuss the bests and worsts of various products and tools and then watching them glow with happiness as their wives gave it a try”.

11154807_957338904306485_4315572095106806095_o-791x1024The entire agenda for the weekend looks exciting yet relaxing … Donna and I CAN’T WAIT to get there!

Registration has already closed so I hope you signed up. I don’t know if Lori can squeeze you in now or if it’s simply booked up and / or too late, If you missed registration or are maybe just hearing of the event for the first time, it may be worth the chance to reach out to her and see if she can get you in.

Either way, you (and your significant other) should still be following Firefighter Wife to see all they have to offer!

For those of you who are registered, I can’t wait to see / meet you! It’s going to be a great weekend and I’m excited to share in it with you all! For my regular readers / followers, I’ll ask again … are you committed to the things that matter? To the things that REALLY matter? I hope so. If not, and like me; this just may be the path you’ve been looking for.
