Hey there readers...yeah, both of you. This is The Fire Critic guest posting on IronFiremen.com. In a recent court appearance, the Judge asked Captain Wines to refrain from posting about now former Buchanan VFD Chief Billy Joe Carter. Willie is well known as "by the book Wines" so I have put this post together to keep you up to speed.

Police have charged Steven Patrick Prease, a former Buchanan firefighter; with two counts of capital attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and one count of capital attempted murder of other persons

The bus involved was not equipped with seat belts or safety restraints. Of the 39 students aboard, 13 were transported to local hospitals with what has been described as minor injuries. The call to 911 actually came from one of the on board students as the driver worked to remove others from the overturned vehicle.

Talking about these situations in a classroom setting is one thing but getting "hands on" for actual experience is invaluable.

Two men and two women were in the canoes, according to a conservation officer with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. The four flipped in a heavy brush area near Buchanan. It took 50 minutes for rescue workers to save them.

Their policy should be STRICT because allowing felons to serve in Public Safety is like putting a fox in the hen house! These are NOT the types of people I want in my house ( with my wife, children, grandchildren etc) while I'm away. When responding to an emergency incident, the Fire Chief has that authority .... to enter your home (by force if deemed necessary).

The " Illusion of death " .... HA ! There is no "illusion". Death is VERY real and nobody knows that better than those of us in the Fire / EMS service. We see it often .. sometimes daily. What we see is not the drama coated "Hollywood" death but the REAL thing. It's not pretty!
