So what are your thoughts? Is it the Chiefs who control"the strings" or is it City / County Administration (the politicians )? Is the old saying about the "poop" running down hill true or do we .... the "boots on the street" also have a say in the direction a Department takes?

Take Randy's new Department for example.... in my opinion ... just like others all across the Country (paid and volunteer); single member staffing and POV response is a gamble. IT'S A GAMBLE WITH FIREFIGHTER'S LIVES!

This was not an accident. It wasn't a car wreck or an act of violence by someone else's hand. This wasn't a stranger I was looking at ... it was my brother laying there ... it was JACKSON and I knew what I was seeing. He was dead. What I didn't know was why.

A drive through most any community is likely to present an occasional view of feminine charms. It is not the intent of this book to discourage the pleasure generally associated with such a view. However, it should be recognized that one of the factors which sets professionals apart from nonprofessionals is emotional restraint.

I'm not a "news" or video site and typically don't share a lot of these. I am however a FDNY buff of sorts and a huge fan of Rescue 2 out of Brooklyn. With that said, here is some raw footage of a 3rd alarm fire from 12/12/14 in Brooklyn .

For those of you not on the job I'll offer this brief explanation. "Making the push" is what Firefighters do once they get to (or near) the fire floor / room. It's what happens after we get to the point of no return... to the point of attack (or a difficult search).

And here's the thing ... you can only "step up" so much .... especially when there's no (or little) forward movement or improvement. You can only beat your head against the wall for so long before you eventually develop a headache.

The two beautiful young ladies by his side in the picture above right worked at what I could only imagine being some type of Sports Bar. The place was called "Scores". I assume it's one of those places that have twenty of so televisions on the walls so that their customers can keep up the "scores" of their favorite sport / game?

Again, getting an attack line into service quickly and efficiently resulted in the saving of lives and property. The fire was held to the room of origin but a couple units sustained water damage while the entire building suffered smoke damage.

The fire was mainly contained to the "attic" area. Crews were met with high heat stretching in to the seat. The house had a slate roof on a steep pitch which made ventilating a little interesting.
