As firefighters, we see and do things on a daily basis that most people never will (and shouldn't have to). We see and do these things without hesitation yet there was no way we could have known or been prepared for the life we were about to devote and expose ourselves to.

The video and song is by Kevin Davidson . Kevin is a Volunteer Firefighter for Greenwich VFD in Kings County Nova Scotia. He is also a paid Paramedic for EHS in Nova Scotia.

For those of you not on the job I'll offer this brief explanation. "Making the push" is what Firefighters do once they get to (or near) the fire floor / room. It's what happens after we get to the point of no return... to the point of attack (or a difficult search).

If we can not help ourselves.... our own members... the Brothers and Sisters riding beside us ... how can we be expected to help those we are sworn to serve and protect? Think about that for a minute.

At one point, I wasn't so sure I'd even make it. Now, I have hope.

I mentioned that I had returned to duty and that decision or "step" in my healing process was as huge and difficult as any of the others I've made.

I'm not sure I'd be here today if he hadn't. Rhett, and the process he sat in motion SAVED MY LIFE that day and I will be forever grateful!

It's up to us to bring those alternative options to the front! I'm still lost but you don't have to be. Our Brothers and Sisters don't have to be. Open your eyes! We should NOT be suffering due to an ignorance of Behavioral Health and Wellness.

I spent my younger years in the Department assigned to a Ladder ..... it was good, honest work. I've learned a lot since then. Truck work made me a good fireman. I'd like to think I'm older and wiser now but some will argue that.
