I'm supposed to lead by example. You are too .... each of us.... no matter the years of experience or rank. I hope by posting this I am. It's surely another teaching point and quite possibly the most important lesson from the weekend. Clean and carcinogen free .... IT'S THE NEW "SALTY".

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has announced the launch of its new Alternative Fuel Vehicles Training Program for U.S. Emergency Responders* (See below), which is now available online. This free, self-paced course teaches emergency responders how to safely deal with emergency situations involving alternative fuel passenger vehicles, trucks, buses, and commercial fleet vehicles.

"The F.O.O.L.S. exemplify the true meaning of the Brotherhood by providing training opportunities to Brother and Sister Firefighters worldwide. We organize benefits to assist not only a firefighter and their families in need, but our communities as well. The F.O.O.L.S. exist to strengthen the Brotherhood of our chosen profession and fuel the flame of passion we have for our calling".

I expect them to learn something everyday. They may graduate in two weeks but they should never stop learning. I hope they never loose that hunger to learn or the excitement for the job that I seen yesterday.

It's EASY to get this far .... hundreds if not thousands of members get this far. The "hard" part is "keeping fire in your life".... staying "Battle Ready". Keeping the desire to learn. To train, to stay healthy, physically fit and in the shape to do the job required of you. To keep motivated. To keep the discipline to push yourself to the "next level". To maintain a positive attitude.

TRUST ME ... it's NOT an easy thing to do. Especially in a Department like ours. I'll go back to those two words.... TRAINING and DISCIPLINE. I applaud the effort and calls our guys are making out here on the street ... they're getting it RIGHT and our members are going home the next morning.

Talking about these situations in a classroom setting is one thing but getting "hands on" for actual experience is invaluable.

Chief Billy was upset that he wasn't able to take us by their Fallen Firefighter Memorial before he ran out of time. We told him not to worry about it .... just give us the address and we'd be sure to stop by and visit it. NOPE ... that wouldn't due. He didn't want us to go to their memorial, he wanted to TAKE us ! THAT'S BROTHERHOOD .

When our recruits complete the acadamy, they are assigned to a company, placed on 1 years probation and have a detailed set of objectives to complete / pass within that year. They are assigned a "Rookie Book" which contains thoses objectives and are evaluated at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 month mark.
