How about leaving as "better" firefighters? As "better" EMT's or Paramedics? As "better" public servants, leaders, co-workers, mentors? How about leaving as "better" human beings ... as better people?

Captain Dillon is an "aggressive" firefighter who has seen more than his fair share of work. When he says it was a "hot" one, what he means is that it would have melted the paint off the gates of hell ...LOL.

When our eyes met, he had a calm look on his face. He smiled at me and winked as if to say he was secure in knowing that I was in command. I don't think he had a clue how lost I was at the time or how bad our situation was but just that simple nod and wink brought me back to reality.

I worked and extra shift yesterday (the 2nd half of it anyway) at Station #3. Rhett needed the day off so he could go to some kind of dance contest. Now, he put on like it was for his daughter but I know the truth.
