It's been humbling for us to watch Randy grow not only into a good fireman but now a husband as well. Both are HUGE accomplishments and I'm confident that he will do well at both.

The bus involved was not equipped with seat belts or safety restraints. Of the 39 students aboard, 13 were transported to local hospitals with what has been described as minor injuries. When you hear the word "Brotherhood" spoken, most of us associate it with the larger Departments in the Country. The FDNY always comes to mind for most but, you hardly ever hear about the "small town USA" Volunteer Fire Company.

Two men and two women were in the canoes, according to a conservation officer with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. The four flipped in a heavy brush area near Buchanan. It took 50 minutes for rescue workers to save them.

I was able to attend the Weissman service but was on duty yesterday during Whitacre's Funeral. Both were well attended and those in attendance should be proud that our Brotherhood was well represented. Yes... our "Brotherhood". These families got to see first hand over the past few days and week what all the "hype" and Brotherhood "talk" is about. They experienced it first hand. If you attended one of the services.... you did too.

We attend these services for the survivors. The fallen are already in a better place. You attend for the family. The wives (or husbands), children , parents etc as well as for their extended family.... the Brothers and Sisters of their Department. You attend to let them know (and see) that they are not alone, their grief is shared and their support system endless.

It's not about us ... me, you, him or her. It's about US ... the Fire Service .. THE BROTHERHOOD. Maybe our small gestures will inspire greater ones from others ....

These men were a part of our Department, our "family", OUR "Brotherhood" . They are a part of our history ... our traditions.... the subjects of great stories, unbelievable acts and even some good firehouse pranks.
