If you haven't heard, Dave's web site, Statter 911.com (which Rhett Fleitz created right after Al Gore invented the internet) is turning 8 years old. That's 8 years as a HUGE success in the Fire / EMS Blogging industry.

I don't have to hear a bunch of bitching and crying when I say we have to do this or that. They know I wouldn't ask something of them unless it was necessary for one reason or another.

Doing "The Right Thing" isn't about me. It's not about making myself look better in the eyes of someone who may or may not even have a clue about "The Right Thing". It's not about impressing someone. It shouldn't be for you either. If it is ... then maybe you're missing the mark. Maybe you're NOT "Doing The Right Thing" after all. Maybe you're in the wrong place.

With his passing still heavy on her heart and mind, Todd's mother sat down yesterday to attempt to write "Thank You" cards. She was simply overwhelmed by the number of Firefighters and the distances they had traveled. It's a true testament to the "Brotherhood" we firefighters share and it never ceases to amaze me.

Take Randy's new Department for example.... in my opinion ... just like others all across the Country (paid and volunteer); single member staffing and POV response is a gamble. IT'S A GAMBLE WITH FIREFIGHTER'S LIVES!

This was not an accident. It wasn't a car wreck or an act of violence by someone else's hand. This wasn't a stranger I was looking at ... it was my brother laying there ... it was JACKSON and I knew what I was seeing. He was dead. What I didn't know was why.

What I did yesterday was a lot like "searching". Searching on or above the fire floor. Crawling on your belly in pitch black ... complete darkness... "Zero Visibility" (another link worth your click). Not knowing what lies ahead, where you're going or what you may encounter along the way. Reaching out trying to find something ... someone but also hoping you wont. What will we find? Life, death or something in between?

In the face of adversity, the members of L-1132 (and firefighters around the Country) accomplish extraordinary deeds in service of their fellow man. The room last Friday night (as is our firehouses everyday) was full of sacrifice and true Heroes.
