These members are our replacements.... the ones we will train to do the job once we no longer can (or have to). It can be argued that they are our most valuable resource and I would tend to agree.

I’m safely home from Detroit and pulling my 2nd tour out of a 72 hrs straight. My regular shift has me working Friday, Sunday and Tuesday but I’m working today (Saturday) to pay a Brother back for some time we recently traded. Friday, Saturday, Sunday sucks but I owe him. I’m working out of Station #7 on B-shift. The House ...

It's too bad that many of the Brothers and Sisters here don't (can't or wont) see the benefit in that (as well as exactly what and why we do what we do). It's sad (and I know why it happens) but, more times than not; we're often the butt of jokes and/or smart ass comments here at home.

It's up to them to EARN that position ... nobody will "give" it to them. It takes dedication and heart and we can't teach either of them! Good luck to Recruit Class #16.

GOOD LUCK and best wishes to Randy from his family at Station #13.... represent us well. Always remember the 3 things NEVER to fool with .... ( snakes, electricity and hookers with adams apples) and NEVER FORGET where ya came from.

TRUST ME ... it's NOT an easy thing to do. Especially in a Department like ours. I'll go back to those two words.... TRAINING and DISCIPLINE. I applaud the effort and calls our guys are making out here on the street ... they're getting it RIGHT and our members are going home the next morning.

So after lunch, we listened to Captain Martin jump every call within a 50 mile radius of Station #3 and even caught a few of our own. It was an EMS call that got me thinking about tonight's post. I was a little bit sad at first but then pride took over.

Talking about these situations in a classroom setting is one thing but getting "hands on" for actual experience is invaluable.

The occupants were in a panic, fearing they were trapped; but Randy had it knocked down within seconds and with less than 500 gallons of water. Our County Brothers will be ecstatic to read that we even got the "brush rake" off the rig. Randy quickly got to the "head", extinguished and began "cutting a line" .... LMAO ... if we only had a " PULASKI" tool.

When our recruits complete the acadamy, they are assigned to a company, placed on 1 years probation and have a detailed set of objectives to complete / pass within that year. They are assigned a "Rookie Book" which contains thoses objectives and are evaluated at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 month mark.
