Doing "The Right Thing" isn't about me. It's not about making myself look better in the eyes of someone who may or may not even have a clue about "The Right Thing". It's not about impressing someone. It shouldn't be for you either. If it is ... then maybe you're missing the mark. Maybe you're NOT "Doing The Right Thing" after all. Maybe you're in the wrong place.

With his passing still heavy on her heart and mind, Todd's mother sat down yesterday to attempt to write "Thank You" cards. She was simply overwhelmed by the number of Firefighters and the distances they had traveled. It's a true testament to the "Brotherhood" we firefighters share and it never ceases to amaze me.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Delp family as well as with the firefighters and First Responders who made a valiant effort in attempting their rescue. I know some of the responders personally and have spoken with them. Obviously, their hearts are heavy but it appears they have a good support network in place and are utilizing it.

“I have no ambition in this world but one, and that is to be a fireman. The position may, in the eyes of some, appear to be a lowly one; but we who know the work which the fireman has to do believe that his is a noble calling."

Boots Worked for me on C-shift, Station #13. He was our Senior Firefighter. He was a mentor to many. A Brother, son, husband, good friend and generous, unselfish, giving man. He was loved and will be missed by many!

Here's another thing today's "deflated ball" rants / debates have totally missed.... the "condition" or cleanliness of the balls.

Andrew "gets it". Tradition, Pride, Honor, Respect and the Brotherhood can be found in each article he posts.

So what are your thoughts? Is it the Chiefs who control"the strings" or is it City / County Administration (the politicians )? Is the old saying about the "poop" running down hill true or do we .... the "boots on the street" also have a say in the direction a Department takes?

Take Randy's new Department for example.... in my opinion ... just like others all across the Country (paid and volunteer); single member staffing and POV response is a gamble. IT'S A GAMBLE WITH FIREFIGHTER'S LIVES!
