I often hear people on the job talk about the mythical "Brotherhood" and how it either doesn't exist or is fading. I couldn't disagree more.

I guess, in a way; we were able to show the men of Rescue 2 that the Brotherhood is alive and well... and not just in New York City. Knowing that a lot of you who donated were sacrificing something to do so (big or small) was very humbling. Again I say THANK YOU !

The point I'm working towards is this. I think that together, Rhett and I have a pretty good grasp / understanding of Pride and Ownership ( and know all to well that it takes more than a few Memorial Stair Climbs or our face on a coin). Now, all we have to do is to figure out what to do with it. Actually, that's not 100% correct either ... we know what to do with it ... that's part of owning it.

Actually, it's not a sale.... what I want to talk about is basically FREE. It also doesn't have to be around the Christmas season to get it ....when you're with the right folks, it's available 365 days a year. I'm talking about Brotherhood, family, friendship and doing something for someone else without expecting something in return. I guarantee that if you make it a point to visit Ironfiremen and Fire Critic.com on a regular basis, we'll show you plenty examples of each and all that it will cost you is the time you spend reading. I'll go a step farther and ask you to "buy into" what we are selling ... it's no gimic.. WE PRACTICE WHAT WE PREACH and the return is invaluable!

We don't do it for the honor or glory. We damn sure don't do it for the pay. We do it because we're fireman .. it's what we know ..what we do. BROTHERHOOD, HONOR, PRIDE, TRADITION and RESPECT .

It's the hardest thing I've ever done yet somewhere deep down, somewhere deep down in your soul and out of that stairwell, you find the strength the keep climbing. It transforms you. I was in that stairwell climbing but I was also somewhere far away. Sweating, out of breath and burning with pain yet at peace.

Our strategies and tactics must change and adapt to the environments in which we are placed. I'm not so sure that our training methods and text books shouldn't be changed as well. I mean we may as well be teaching single firefighter techniques right? Why teach and drill into a rookies head the "team concept" when in reality, they are gonna end up on the nozzle or searching alone?
